Dr. Winstead is a pediatric hematologist and oncologist, who specializes in hemoglobin disorders, such as sickle cell disease. In particular, his research interests focus on:

  • Examining immune function after stem cell transplantation (SCT) and the impact of T-cell recovery on quality of life and graft-versus-host disease (GVHD).
  • Studying the association between gamma-delta T-cell diversity and severity of GVHD.
  • Furthering the understanding of immune regulation in SCT recipients, particularly those with baseline immune dysregulation, such as patients with immunodeficiencies and sickle cell disease.
